My Mentor

Julie Badger is the owner of her own business: Atlanta Equestrian. Just some of the tasks included in her job are training horses and riders, caring for horses, scheduling riding lessons, handling finances, and helping her clients.

Before owning her own equestrian business, she had a marketing business.

My Role

While working with Julie I…

  • created a new page on her website

  • created a newsletter for the month of March to send to the mailing list

  • helped handle invoices to send to clients

  • wrote a letter of recommendation

  • learned about medical care for horses

  • learned about nutrition for horses

  • classified transactions for mock income statements

This winter, we’ve noticed our horses are losing some weight. To put more weight on them, we are switching them to new feed that is higher in fat

We feed alfalfa cubes to our horses during the winter due to a lack of grass. The pastures are not as green and the horses go outside less. We feed the alfalfa cubes soaked so that the horses won’t choke on them and so that they keep themselves hydrated.

One of our horses, Jay, injured his leg in his stall, so we cleaned and wrapped it.

My Contribution

By helping out, I was able to help a lot of tasks move more quickly. While trying to think of good skills for me to learn by working with Atlanta Equestrian, we also came up with new ideas and resources for the business, like the additional page on the website and an excel sheet we designed to lay out horse show pricing for clients.
